LOW.MS Interview

Tell us about you in a few sentences - What's your name, position in the company, and background story of how you got to that position.

My name is Jonathan Lambert and I am the founder of LOW.MS. I previously ran a Minecraft & DayZ hosting company back in 2011, which later became an official host for DayZ. After taking a break to focus on university and software development, I decided to start LOW.MS.

What's your favorite game?

My favorite game currently is Squad!

When was the company created and what was the motivation behind creating it? How many people work at the company?

LOW.MS started in the summer of 2016. I was eager to get back into server hosting after a break from my previous company. I also noticed quite a few smaller, lesser known indie games that had no server hosts. I wanted to provide a hosting service for these games no matter how small or hard they were to host for. We currently have 4 members of staff.

What went into first building the company and what was the first few months like?

Blood, sweat, and tears! It was hard work to begin with getting customers on-board, but once they experienced our state-of-the-art hardware and network they started using us as their regular top choice for game server hosting.

How many customers are you serving? How are you growing the company's customer base?

We are currently serving over 1,000 customers. To grow we mainly rely on word-of-mouth with a bit of advertising in the right places.

What are the most popular games the company is hosting? What are the most popular hosting locations?

Currently ARK and Rust are some of our most popular games. London (our home!) is our most popular location in Europe and Dallas and NY are very popular in the US.

What are the difficulties of running a hosting company that your users might not know about?

We monitor all our hardware and software on a 24/7 basis, which allows us to fix problems before our users notice a thing. e.g. Server running out of disk space? We will make some room or add a new drive to the server before it gets too dangerous levels.

What sets you apart from other game server hosting companies?

Our hardware is never older than 2 years old. We do everything we can to use the latest and greatest in server tech, with game server hosting in mind. We are also building a custom control panel (more on that in another answer).

Customer support is a delicate issue for hosting companies. How are you handling it?

In terms of answering tickets and helping customers, we like to think we are doing a good job. We may not be the best, but we learn from every ticket and take on-board feedback no matter how negative it may be.

What are your goals and focus for the company going forward?

Over the past 18 months we have been working on a completely custom control panel which is very intuitive and state-of-the-art. A lot of hosts (including ourselves) currently use TCAdmin, an out-dated piece of software which is lacking a lot of modern-day features. We are very excited about it and hope to reveal some more details about it soon.
